Training
The Veterinary Council recognises the importance of well being in veterinary health professionals, and supports the health and well being of the veterinary professions. Following the commission and launch of the Report of the Mental Health of Veterinary Professions in Ireland in 2022, the VCI have partnered with the National Office of Suicide Prevention to promote awareness, supports and training related to mental health and wellbeing for veterinary teams, through free of charge training titled safeTALK.
safeTALK is an internationally recognised half-day training programme that prepares participants in recognition and engagement with people who may be experiencing mental health challenges and/or suicidality, and to connect them to mental health and suicide first aid resources.
Any member of a veterinary team is encouraged to undergo this training, to ensure we are all aware and trained to assist our colleagues who may need supports at any time, and be familiar with the available supports and resources.
A list of the upcoming safeTALK training sessions are listed below, with dates and locations and links to book:
For further information on the training please read the safeTALK information leaflet.
There is also an online training programme “Let’s Talk About Suicide” which might assist those unable to attend in person training. This can be access through the following link – https://traininghub.nosp.ie/
