Complaints & Disciplinary Procedures

The jurisdiction of the Veterinary Council of Ireland (“VCI”) extends to ensuring proper professional conduct amongst the members of the veterinary profession and to applying a range of sanctions, up to and including erasure from the Register, on any registered person.

How to make a Complaint?

A complaint must be made in writing and sent to us either in the post or by email. We cannot accept complaints made over the telephone. Please consider our complaint form which gives us all relevant details about the matter.

Reporting Illegal Practice

If you are concerned that someone may be practising without being qualified, eligible or registered with the VCI, please email us at: info@vci.ie or call us on 01 668 4402.

Complaints and Inquiry Process

If you are notified by the VCI that a complaint has been made about you, it is advisable that you consult your insurers/indemnifiers, representative body or solicitor. The VCI cannot provide legal advice.

Complaint Outcomes

The VCI publishes the outcomes of fitness to practise proceedings in its annual reports in accordance with section 89 of the Veterinary Practice Act 2005, as amended.
