CVE Course Providers deliver further education, study, or training related to veterinary medicine or veterinary nursing, either in person or online. For courses to be eligible for Continuing Veterinary Education (CVE) credits, they must be approved by the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI). Course providers in Ireland must submit a Course Approval Application at least 8 weeks before the course starts. Unapproved courses cannot contribute to a registrant’s CVE requirements, and providers are reminded that only courses approved by the VCI can be advertised as such.
As of January 1, 2021, updated CVE regulations have been introduced under S.I. No. 577 and 578 of 2020. Approved courses must meet criteria such as relevance to veterinary practice, animal health, public health, or management skills, and last at least 60 minutes. Once approved, courses are valid only for the year of approval, and an application fee of €150 applies (excluding Clinical Societies). Providers must also issue Certificates of Completion containing key course and registrant details, including an Approved-Course Code issued by the VCI.
